Thank you, Igor. Your post brought me back my to Gono Line last October. It was unfortunate that the weather was not so nice as yours, but I strongly recommend this region. You will enjoy beautiful autumn if the weather is good. Please be aware that Gono Line is extremely popular.

Thank you! Some trains were alarmingly empty. One anfternoon only two of us on the whole train (Resort Shirakami). But conductor said it gets busy on weekends and public holidays. Conventional trains (1-2 cars) carried mostly local commuters, this one I guess will survive.

I cannot believe there were empty seats in Resort Shirakami. it seems to depend on the day and time. I would like to visit again!!

Exactly. The “driver” told me it is pm and going back and weekday ( went from Ajigasawa to Noshiro. “Don’t worry , we still are making money”, was the verdict.

Anything north of Honshu is better during Japanese summers I guess. Now walking through Hakodate , can be ideal base for summers which leads to the new series , eg “escapes from the heat, part 1”. (:
