Sounds like a great trip, I have never taken a luxury train journey though have managed a few first-class seats. Train travel is certainly the way to go, in fact I always try to do at least one train journey in every country visited, if they have one of course. Funnily enough, I would also like to visit Ipoh one day !
Good system : train in each new country. I make a rule to use public transport in each new country. Easy in Singapore,BKK or Manila, not so in Yangon for example. See you at Ipoh one day !

We did manage a ride on that circular train in Yangon way back in 2004, I believe it may have been updated since - hopefully !
Was not so in 2010. Guess “government” is busy now , defending…
